We would like to take this opportunity to the thank the committee for their sterling work by listing their fantastic achievements across this first year.
💚 In January we started the year by launching our new campaign title, Action for Hogshaw.
🐦⬛ We hosted two well-attended dawn chorus walks in March and May which provided opportunities for appreciating the diversity of birdsong that can be heard at Hogshaw and for learning from the expertise of the naturalists on the team.
📰 An article in the Guardian in April, ‘Country diary: A bum note amid the dawn chorus’ highlighted the ongoing risk to Hogshaw despite council declarations of a nature emergency.
🤝 In May the team had a very positive meeting the local biodiversity officer, walking the site and setting out priorities for action.
🖼️ In June we launched our beautiful leaflet with amazing artwork and graphic design by members of the campaign team.
🌺 Our entry into the garden trail brought over 90 visitors to Hogshaw to enjoy the space along with cake and book sales and a beautiful summer solstice yoga session led by Jax which raised funds and awareness and added 30 more supporters who signed up to receive our newsletter.
🔍 At the end of June our naturalist experts, kindly joined by other local conservation specialists, were out surveying the patch to count the rich biodiversity of Hogshaw and added over a hundred new recorded species to the list.
📰 This was followed in July by an article, ‘A 1000 reasons to save Hogshaw‘ in the Buxton Advertiser to celebrate reaching 1000 species recorded on the site.
💻 Our website has been regularly updated with new articles every month written by the team highlighting the species and value of Hogshaw as a haven for wildlife, a refuge from the busy world, and inspiration for artists.
📰 9 monthly newsletters have been sent out to over 100 supporters updating on events, linking to articles and sharing Hogshaw highlights.
🙏 Finally, we would like to thank all our supporting organisations, local residents, visitors, councillors, and local authority officers, for engaging with us, supporting us and joining our events.
Everyone has worked so hard and achieved so much to raise awareness of the value of Hogshaw and to safeguard its future – congratulations!
